Still recovering from a busy day at Harewood. Arrived at 07:45. Parked up & had breakfast. A quick wander round the paddock & signed-on. Met up with The Pons who reported back on several cars I hadn't seen previously, had a long chat with Haydn Spedding & Chris Mason, ferreted out more info on a couple of cars, took a few snaps, started prep work for commentary and then suddenly we were into the first batch of competition runs after TWO practice runs. After a short lunch break it was back on the mike.
Some fascinatig class battles and stunning performances. James Hudson broke the A3 class record on each run; Stuart Stelling broke his PB on each run; Scott Moran won the Sports Libre Saloon class in his first outing in the Fiesta Euro Hillclimb beastie, David Tatham held off the Hamer Brothers in the 1100 class and qualified for BOTH Top 12 Run-offs and the 14 driver FF1600 class saw Jimmy Harris emerge victorious after having to play second fiddle to Rob Spedding on the first runs whilst Sam Wilson, class winner on Saturday, took a fine third. It was great to see the 1969 & 1971 BHC winning car, the Guyson Hepworth Sandblaster Special, back in competion in class M where Jonathan Flesher & Tim Thomson brought the old girl home in a team 1-2. Rob Samuels broke the Ferrari class record whilst there were PBs galore in the Harewood Drivers class.
The two run-offs were super with Wallace Menzies taking victory in Round 5 after Matt Ryder had launch issues and could only stagger away from the line with a very lumpy sounding engine. In Round 6 Ryder's issues had been resolved and despite lagging behind on the early part of his run blasted to victory with FTD, With Ryder failing to score in Round 5 the championship leader leaving Harewood was Will Hall whilst Wallace & Matt were tied for second place. Trevor Willis scored a third & a fourth at one of his favourite hills & moved up to fourth.
It was disappointing that there was no Live Steam this year as the large crowd present were entertained by some great performance all of which were conducted in near perfect conditions. Big thank you goes out to the Marshals & Organising Team - I'm already looking forward to July when the BHC returns to Harewood.
